Child ADHD Assessment

Comprehensive Private ADHD Assessments for Children and Young People

WMI Psychiatry provides private ADHD assessments for children and young people throughout the UK. Our comprehensive child ADHD assessment pathway is designed to identify whether ADHD is present, understand how symptoms affect everyday life and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Our assessments are completed by experienced ADHD clinicians and include developmental history, clinical assessment, observation, diagnostic formulation, written reporting and treatment planning.

The assessment pathway is delivered across four appointments, allowing time for a thorough evaluation rather than a rushed one-off consultation. The total cost is £850, which is paid across the four appointments rather than as a single upfront fee.

What Is Included in a Child ADHD Assessment?

Our private ADHD assessment pathway includes:

  • Detailed ADHD and General Mental Health assessment

  • Review of parent, school and supporting questionnaires

  • Detailed developmental and risk history

  • Clinical observation

  • Multidisciplinary discussion

  • Medication discussion and initiation (if clinically indicated)

Signs of ADHD in Children

Children and young people with ADHD can experience difficulties in different ways. Some children struggle mainly with attention and concentration, whilst others experience significant hyperactivity and impulsivity.

Common signs of ADHD include:

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Easily distracted by noises or activities around them

  • Forgetfulness in daily activities

  • Frequently losing belongings

  • Difficulty following instructions

  • Problems with organisation and planning

  • Fidgeting or restlessness

  • Excessive talking

  • Interrupting conversations

  • Acting impulsively without considering consequences

  • Emotional dysregulation

  • Difficulties at school, home or in social situations

Many of these behaviours can occur in children without ADHD. A comprehensive assessment is therefore needed to determine whether symptoms are consistent with ADHD and whether they are having a significant impact on everyday functioning.
