General Psychiatry Assessment

Comprehensive Private Psychiatric Assessments for Children, Young People and Adults

At WMI Psychiatry, we provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments for children, young people and adults experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties.

Many people seek an assessment because they know they are struggling but are unsure why. Our role is to take the time to understand your experiences, explore possible explanations and work with you to develop a clear and personalised treatment plan.

Appointments are available online throughout the UK and face-to-face at our Manchester clinic.

Whether you are experiencing symptoms for the first time or have been living with difficulties for many years, our aim is to provide clarity, reassurance and practical recommendations tailored to your individual needs.

Who Is This Assessment Suitable For?

A general psychiatry assessment is appropriate for individuals experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties that are affecting day-to-day life.

You may benefit from an assessment if you are experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • Panic attacks

  • Persistent low mood

  • Mood swings

  • Obsessive-compulsive symptoms

  • Emotional dysregulation

  • Trauma-related symptoms

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Stress or burnout

  • Behavioural difficulties

  • Self-esteem difficulties

  • Difficulties adjusting to major life changes

Many people are referred because their symptoms do not fit neatly into one diagnosis, or because they would like a comprehensive opinion regarding the most appropriate treatment.

What Happens During a Psychiatric Assessment?

A psychiatric assessment aims to develop a detailed understanding of your mental health, background and current circumstances.

Rather than focusing on a single diagnosis, we consider the whole person, including emotional wellbeing, physical health, relationships, education or employment, previous treatment and current strengths.

Our goal is to understand what factors may be contributing to your difficulties and develop recommendations that are evidence-based, practical and individualised.

Our General Psychiatric Assessment Pathway

Our assessment pathway is delivered across two appointments. The first appointment focuses on gathering a detailed understanding of your history and current difficulties, while the second appointment allows an experienced psychiatric clinician to review this information, complete the clinical assessment and discuss diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

This structured approach allows us to obtain comprehensive information before considering diagnostic conclusions and ensures that sufficient time is available to develop a personalised management plan.
