Autism Assessment
Comprehensive Autism Assessments for Children, Young People and Adults
At WMI Psychiatry, we provide comprehensive autism assessments for children, young people and adults throughout the UK.
Our structured assessment pathway is designed to develop a detailed understanding of an individual's strengths, differences and support needs. We recognise that every autistic person is unique, and our assessments are focused on understanding the individual rather than simply identifying a diagnosis.
Appointments are available online throughout the UK and face-to-face at our Manchester clinic.
Whether you are seeking an assessment for yourself or for your child, our aim is to provide clarity, understanding and practical recommendations to help support future wellbeing and development
Child and Adolescent Autism Assessment
Our child and adolescent autism assessments explore social communication, social interaction, behavioural patterns and sensory experiences within the context of a child's development.
The assessment considers information from parents, carers and educational settings where appropriate.
Adult Autism Assessment
Many adults seek assessment after years of wondering why social situations feel more challenging than they appear for others, experiencing sensory sensitivities, struggling with change or feeling different from those around them.
Our adult autism assessments are designed to provide a detailed understanding of autism characteristics, strengths and support needs in adulthood.
What Is Autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people experience and interact with the world around them.
Autism may influence:
Social communication
Social interaction
Understanding social situations
Preference for routine and predictability
Sensory processing
Emotional regulation
Interests and hobbies
Flexibility of thinking
Autism presents differently in every individual. Some people require significant support in their daily lives, while others live independently and may not seek assessment until adolescence or adulthood.
Why Seek an Autism Assessment?
Individuals and families seek autism assessment for many different reasons.
Assessment can provide:
A better understanding of strengths and challenges
Clarification regarding longstanding difficulties
Recommendations for school, university or workplace support
Access to appropriate services and accommodations
Greater self-understanding and acceptance
Guidance regarding future support needs
For many individuals, assessment provides valuable insight regardless of whether a diagnosis is ultimately made.
