Our assessment pathway is delivered across four appointments. This allows sufficient time to obtain a detailed developmental history, review supporting information and provide a comprehensive assessment of social communication, social interaction, behavioural patterns and sensory experiences.
Appointment One – Initial Assessment and Developmental History
120 minutes
The first appointment focuses on understanding the reasons for referral and exploring developmental history in detail.
This appointment includes:
Autism screening interview
Detailed developmental history
Exploration of current concerns and difficulties
Discussion regarding autism and alternative explanations for symptoms
Explanation of the assessment process
Overview of the diagnostic process and recommendations
Appointment Two – Comprehensive Autism Assessment
120 minutes
The second appointment focuses on exploring autism characteristics and how they affect day-to-day functioning.
This appointment includes:
Comprehensive autism assessment
Exploration of social communication differences
Exploration of social interaction patterns
Assessment of sensory differences
Exploration of routines, interests and behavioural patterns
Assessment of functional impact across different areas of life
Appointment Three – Clinical Observation and Multidisciplinary Review
60 minutes (+ 30 minute team discussion)
This appointment includes a structured clinical observation to further inform the assessment process.
Following the appointment, the clinical team undertakes a multidisciplinary discussion to review all available information and consider the assessment findings in detail.
This stage includes:
Clinical observation
Review of supporting information
30 minute multidisciplinary team discussion
Consideration of differential diagnoses
Diagnostic formulation
Appointment Four – Feedback and Recommendations
60 minutes
The final appointment focuses on discussing the outcome of the assessment and planning the next steps.
This appointment includes:
Explanation of assessment findings
Discussion regarding diagnosis
Review of strengths and support needs
Personalised recommendations
Discussion of appropriate support options
Opportunity to ask questions regarding the assessment outcome
