Comprehensive Assessment

Comprehensive Neurodevelopmental and Mental Health Assessments

At WMI Psychiatry, we understand that not everyone's difficulties fit neatly into a single diagnosis. Many individuals experience overlapping symptoms that may relate to ADHD, autism or other mental health conditions. Others simply know that they are struggling but are unsure why.

Our Comprehensive Assessment pathway has been designed for these situations. Rather than focusing on a single condition, we undertake an integrated assessment that considers neurodevelopmental conditions alongside broader mental health difficulties, allowing us to develop a detailed understanding of the individual as a whole.

Appointments are available online throughout the UK and face-to-face at our Manchester clinic.

Whether you are seeking answers for yourself or for your child, our aim is to provide clarity, understanding and practical recommendations tailored to your individual needs.

Who Is This Assessment Suitable For?

This assessment is particularly helpful for individuals whose presentation is complex or where several conditions may be contributing to their difficulties.

You may benefit from a Comprehensive Assessment if:

  • You are unsure whether your symptoms are related to ADHD, autism, mental health difficulties or a combination of these.

  • You have longstanding difficulties that have never been fully explained.

  • You have previously received one diagnosis but feel it does not fully explain your experiences.

  • Several professionals have suggested different possible diagnoses.

  • You would prefer a single integrated assessment rather than completing multiple separate assessment pathways.

Our aim is to understand the whole person and ensure that recommendations are based on your individual presentation rather than a single diagnostic label.

What Does a Comprehensive Assessment Include?

Our assessment considers a wide range of factors, including:

  • ADHD characteristics

  • Autism characteristics

  • Emotional wellbeing

  • Anxiety and mood symptoms

  • Emotional regulation

  • Obsessive-compulsive symptoms

  • Trauma-related symptoms where appropriate

  • Behavioural concerns

  • Developmental history

  • Family history

  • Social, educational and occupational functioning

By considering these areas together, we are able to understand how different conditions may interact and whether more than one diagnosis is appropriate.

Our Comprehensive Assessment Pathway

Our comprehensive assessment pathway is delivered across six appointments. By gathering information over several appointments, reviewing developmental history in detail and considering neurodevelopmental and mental health symptoms together, we are able to develop a thorough understanding of an individual's presentation before reaching any diagnostic conclusions.

This structured approach ensures that sufficient time is available to explore complex presentations, consider overlapping conditions and provide personalised recommendations that reflect the individual's strengths, difficulties and support needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Comprehensive Assessment different from an ADHD or autism assessment?

Rather than focusing on a single condition, the Comprehensive Assessment considers ADHD, autism and broader mental health difficulties together. This can be particularly helpful when symptoms overlap or when the underlying cause of difficulties is uncertain.

Do I need to know which diagnosis I have before booking?

No. This pathway is specifically designed for individuals who are unsure which assessment is most appropriate.

Are appointments available online?

Yes. We provide Comprehensive Assessments for patients throughout the UK using secure online consultations.

Do you offer face-to-face appointments?

Yes. Face-to-face appointments are available at our Manchester clinic.

Will I receive a written report?

Yes. A comprehensive written report is included as part of the assessment.

What if more than one diagnosis is identified?

Some individuals meet the criteria for more than one condition. Where appropriate, we will explain how these conditions interact and provide recommendations that take the whole person into account.
